Spring 2010 Program One
Building upon the success of the OnRamp pilot program in Spring 2009, we launched an expanded program in Spring 2010. We reached double the number of students, thanks to a grant from MPS Partnership for the Arts. We partnered again with Community High School, an MPS Charter School with a focus on social justice. Participants also included students from our new after-school partner, Our Next Generation.
Like the Pilot Program, Program One consisted of bi-weekly learning modules held at various facilities like the Eisner Museum of Advertising & Design, Hanson Dodge Creative, MIAD (Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design), MATC, C2 Graphics Productivity Solutions, and Discovery World. Volunteers lead students through exposure to a full range of design-world roles & responsibilities and the lifecycle of a real-world design project creating a new collection for the M:KE brand of shirts. New components in this years program included visits to the Weyco Group to see product design & development in the footwear fashion industry, and to cutting-edge snow/skate/streetwear retailer Moda3 to learn about market research, merchandising, and design inspiration.
Program One ran from January 19 to June 3, 2010, with a finale celebration & line launch on May 26. See the success of the program by viewing the t-shirt designs.
