SPRING 2010 PROGRAM ONE

M:KE Logo

Building upon the success of the OnRamp pilot program in Spring 2009, we are planning to launch an expanded program in Spring 2010. We will reach double the number of students, with a goal of 24-28 participants. We will again partner with Community High School, an MPS Charter School with a focus on social justice. Participants will also include students from new after-school partners, Our Next Generation and Urban Underground.

Like the Pilot Program, Program One will consist of bi-weekly learning modules held at various facilities like the Eisner Museum of Advertising & Design, Hanson Dodge Creative, MIAD (Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design), MATC, C2 Graphics Productivity Solutions, and Discovery World. Volunteers will lead students through exposure to a full range of design-world roles & responsibilities and the lifecycle of a real-world design project creating a new collection for the M:KE brand of shirts. New components in this year’s program will include visits to the Weyco Group to see product design & development in the footwear fashion industry, and to cutting-edge snow/skate/streetwear retailer Moda3 to learn about market research, merchandising, and design inspiration.

Program One will run from January 19 to June 3, 2010, with a finale celebration & line launch scheduled for May 26. Stay tuned for more information.
